Power8 Sprints 2019 is Cancelled

After its exciting first edition in the summer of last year, the decision has been made to cancel the Power8 Sprints  due to be headline the Bristol Harbour Festival on 21st July. This will come as a disappointment to many, after the introduction of the event last year showed promise of expanding the audience that engages with the sport by providing a more widely televised and accessible event. The 350m course- as opposed to the 2000m course used in standard regatta racing- allowed for a shorter and more exciting spectacle, particular for those less heavily involved in rowing. The Boat Race 2019 Reserve Crews Announced

  The Boat Race has announced the reserve crews for the 2019 Boat Race next weekend. The reserve crews race the full course just the same as the blue boats and participate in the same training programme. The standards of these reserve crews are very high, and many athletes will use the reserve race as a stepping stone into future blue boats. The Oxford men's reserve crew are known as Isis, with the women's reserve crew known as Osiris. The Cambridge men's reserve crew are known as Goldie, with the women's reserve crew known as Blondie. Fawley Challenge Cup 2019 Preview

The Fawley Challenge Cup is the biggest event of the year for all Junior Scullers; clubs can compete in this event too, thereby further increasing the diversity of the crews entered and thus the bragging rights. The best 24 crews have already been filtered following a heated round of qualifying time trials last Friday. Be braced for some scintillating duels this year! Racing on their home stretch, Leander A and Henley RC A will be the two favourites for this event. Henley A won the Championship Quads at NSR this year, with Leander A trailing them by just over a second, claiming silver. Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup 2019 Preview

The Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup is currently the only event for junior women at Henley Royal Regatta, so you can expect it to be of a very high standard. There are 20 crews this year, up from 16 last year, and 3 of which are international crews. The crews were reduced from a massive 54 entries by qualifying races, with 11 crews prequalifying.   The first race of the week is between Sir William Perkins School and Loreto Toorak AUS. The girls at Sir William Perkins have had a solid season, with a strong win in the 2x at Henley Women’s Regatta and placing 4th at the Junior Sculling Regatta.
