In 2017, three new women’s events were introduced into the racing schedule; these included races for Women’s Coxless Pairs, Women’s Coxless Fours, and Women’s Double Sculls. On Monday 18th June 2018, the new trophies for these events were showcased at the Henley Royal Regatta headquarters, positioned opposite Leander Club.
A convincing win in the time trial by 13 seconds, and with no times published Shiplake might've been given false hope that they were in reach of the Gold Medal on Saturday, however a dominant performance in their semi-final made it seem as if these boys were out for a paddle, not a 2km race...
Junior challenge quads this year looks like it is going to be a very interesting race. There are many standout crews that have performed solidly in the few earlier races this year but with it being so early on any crew could come out of nowhere and surprise everyone.
The rowing season re-commences in earnest this weekend on the Tideway, where most crews will look to gain valuable experience, if not a medal. At this point in the season, it remains to be seen who is strong and who has work to do, who is J16, who is the firsts, who are fielding parallel crews, so any predictions at this point in time are fraught; but one can certainly say that all crews will be filled with optimism, so hopefully the weather Gods are kind and the racing is on!
