Coupe de la Jeunesse 2018: GB’s Junior Women’s Sweep

Racing gets into full swing today at the Coupe de la Jeunesse held at the National Rowing Centre in Cork, Ireland after today’s girl’s’ eights race. Fifteen girls athletes have been selected to represent GB this year- a full team list can be found below. On the sweep side, a pair, coxless four and the composite eight will race over the course of the regatta.

The eight racing yesterday was led by Headington School coxswain Annelise Perkins and featured members of the four, quad, pair and racing spare Ellie Cushen of Northwich RC. In an exciting race today they fought off competition from Spain to take the gold medal, putting the rest of the team in good stead for the weekend ahead.

Returning to the four after racing in it last season is Monkton Combe’s Olivia Caesar, who also raced at HIR last year. She is joined by two Headington athletes, Alice Van Onselen and Alice Plucknett, with Putney Hugh School’s Lucy Miles completing the lineup. Lucy has had much success throughout this year with her home club in the four and she will hope to replicate this on an international stage.

Yarm School students Katie Anderson and Sarah Portsmouth complete the girls' lineups this weekend, a first-time experience racing in an international vest for them both.
